Grand Theft Auto is coming to the Nintendo DS. Yes, that platform. Take-Two Interactive certainly is tapping into the strongest platform right now to gain more Zelnick nickels and Feder bucks, but we're not complaining. Name of the title? It's Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars. The game is set in a modern day Liberty City, but more is not known. Big question right now is if it's top-down or viewed in a third person perspective as we have come to known GTA.

The full press release from Rockstar Games:

QUOTE
Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with series creators Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be available on the Nintendo DS™ in North America and Europe this winter.

"This is a game that will deliver a rich, fast-paced and intense 'Grand Theft Auto' experience that will be truly unique to Nintendo's handheld platform," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Rockstar Leeds, along with the team at Rockstar North, has built upon a decade of progressive design on Grand Theft Auto, and has created something fundamentally fresh and immersive."

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an entirely original entry into the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series, and brings a new level of interactivity to its sprawling open environments. With the use of the DS touch screen, players will navigate their way through the streets as they uncover the truth behind an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate, delivering the unprecedented amount of depth that has become a true trademark of the franchise.

Yeah I don't see this as being aimed at the hardcore GTA gamer, but merely at the many consumers who own a DS and will now be able to play the GTA franchise on this platform.

Who knows, with its unique controlling, it might just sell a few DS's.

Surprising news, probably the only good thing that Nintendo announced at their press conference(worst conference of E3).
I guess we won´t see another PSP GTA in anytime either.

I actually think that this game will be good and will sell like hot cakes.

I think its not going to be the traditional birds eye view. I'm pretty sure that this will sell well.

Oh, really? You can practically "grananty" that it will look like "zelzda" on the ds

Man, please fix your damned spelling, and I'm sure Rockstar won't make that mistake on making a GTA cartoony looking.

and what's Zelzda? lmfao laugh.gif
