Liberty City Stories Missions

Below we outline some of the missions that will be availible in GTA Liberty City Stories. This page will be updated everytime we recieve more info on this great upcoming title..

The Trouble with the triads

Our "here" Toni meets up with Mafia boss Don Salvatore - who's accused of being in a mid-life crisis by his girlfriend as he pulls up in an open top sports car in a vaguely amusing cut-scene - and is told to pick up some money from Callahan point. Toni jacks a Leone Sentinel(sexy Mafia car from GTA3) and cruises to the destination as we marvel at the volume of traffic and pedestrians ("Watch it young man!" cries one old feller). As Toni reaches the drop point, a rival triad gang blows it up, and you've got to run around scooping up money and shooting goons (using a similar priority targeting system to GTA:SA - use the D-pad and shoulder buttons to cycle targets). Toni jumps in the car and speeds away, promptly chased by suicidal Triads in trucks. Some sharp driving, violent handbrake turn and drive-bys later, Toni returns to the base. Mission Passed! $750.

Shop Till You Strop

Toni has to take the Don's girlfriend (mental bi-sexual mafia moll Maria) on a shopping trip - where she proceeds to shoplift at will. You need to drive to each point, wait for her to "accidentaly " pick something up, then speed away with the cops in pursuit. "Keep the engine running," she purrs, as the shopkeeper emerges with a shotgun and blows out your tyres - you've got to make it home with a three-star wanted level while running on your rims. It's tough, but hugely enjoyable.

Blow Up Dolls

You visit J.D.O'Toole, who owns Paulie's Revue Bar, a small time hustler who wants to defect from the Sindacco family and work for the Don. He's hiding behind a metal door with a peephole while something "odd" goes on behind. He tips you off about a Triad attack on a casino downtown, and you need to speed there on your PCJ-600 to head off trouble. The Triads try to run you off the road, and you arrive at the casino just in time to see it partialy exploded, which they try to finish off with an armoured Patriot. You need to disable the patriot with some cute junction ambush/drive-by work, and race back to the casino, where they've planted a truck bomb. You've got 30 seconds to drive the truck to a safe distance and leg it.

Home Sweet Home

Briefing: This is the very first mission in the game, so it's pretty simple and low-key. The Don's right hand man, Vinnie, takes you (or rather you drive him) to your very own apartment. As expected, we get a garage to store cars in, a closet to change clothes in, and a hovering CD icon to save your game.
Highlight: Seeing snow in Liberty City. Yes, the snow effect is new.

Smash 'N' Grab

Briefing: In this mission, Vinnie sends Toni to rescue some men be-ing attacked by the police. First we had to find a four seater car (y'know, to fit everyone), and get there before they died. A meter on the side of the screen showed their life dwindle as we raced towards them. We busted through the police barricade, picked up the men, and eventualy made it back to Vinnie's place.
Highlight: Hitting up the classic Pay 'N' Spray to lose the furious cops.

Snuff

Briefing: Strip club owner , JD O'Toole, feels shafted by his employers, the Sindacco Family, since they won't let him move up in ranks. Of course, he then hits up Leone for work instead. The problem is that he's being followed by a Sindacco thug. It's Toni's job to take out the watcher. After we hit up the local Amu-Nation for a gun, we tracked down the Sindacco and took care of business. We then found out JD was in debt to us, so he offered the Sindacco's car as a down payment. We drove the stylish sports car (which is completely new to the GTA world) to a Pay 'N' Spray, then back to our garage and ended the mission.
Highlight: Using those conveniently placed exploding barrels to take out the Sindacco's evil henchmen.

Driving Mr. Leone

Briefing: Leone's feeling the beat from the cops and rival gangs , so he needs to get over from Portland to Staunton Island. Since the Callahan bridge that connects the two is being worked on, he needs to take a ferry ride (also new to the GTA World). As we drove Leone over to the ferry station, we realized from the mob of cops waiting there that they'd been tipped off. Leone tells Toni to get him to the bridge ASAP regardless of it's condition, so off we go. This mission is where we witness just how aggressive the police are. Cop cars are literaly smashing us from every direction, keeping us from either reaching a Pay 'N' Spray to lose them, or getting to the bridge in one piece. They destroy our car, we get out, and we die. We retry the mission, but this time we find a charter bus to drive rather than Leone's car. It's a hell of a lot slower, but the added strength of the bigger body lets us reach the bridge intact.
Highlight: Making it to the bridge and watching the epic slow-mo cutscene as our character bus flies accros the gap in the bridge, Speed-style.

Caught In The Act

Briefing: You've made it to Staunton Island. Leone asks Toni to go down to the docks with him to intimidate the mayor's top aide for info on a rival gang. Lucky for you, the aide is vacationing on his yaght on a river, so you meet up with Leone at the docks and take a speedboat out to talk to him. A cutscene begins and we bring the mayor's man onto our speedboat. Conveniently, the Secret Service were watching and are now on our tail. Salvatore starts driving the boat while we pick up an automatic rifle. The game quickly shifts to a first-person perspective. It's our job to gun down the black suits while Salvatore takes us to safety in this high-speed chase. First we're taking the government agents along the docks with our gun and the exploding barrels located everywhere. Suddenly, three boats with agents are on our tail. We take out the boats one by one, and the game cuts to a dramatic cutscene as our boat makes a flying jump past more exploding barrels and agents. Just when we think we've finally made it to safety, a chopper with men hanging off the sides appears behind us. Using our expert aiming skills, we pick off the men, and then the chopper. It goes down in a blaze of glory, and the mission ends. All this condensed and intense action takes only a few minutes, but feels like an epic Hollywood movie scene.
Highlight: The whole damn thing.

Mission 1

We're rolling through the Red Light District, and true enough, it's familiar but different. We're outside Luigi's strip club, Sex Club 7 - the first place you visit in GTA III - but Luigi isn't here yet. It's Paulie's Revue Bar and is run by JD O'Toole, a slimy pervert with links to the triads. He wants to get in with the Leone mob instead, so he tips you off about a Triad attack in St. Marks. It's nearby, so we head to AmmuNation and load up on Uzis. We rock up in the Sentinel, and Tony's henchman jumps out and stand guard while we decide to head off the attack before it arrives. Two waves of angry triads and several drive-by shootings later, a bulletproof patriot reaches the casino and plants a bomb. Boom! It wrecks the place, but doesn't demolish it. It's not enough for the gangsters. Relentless, they send another truck packed with explosives, parking it nearby - this one will bring the whole place down if it blows. How can we save the casino? Naturally we leap in the bomb truck and drive off, paying great attention to the timer and safe-distance meters. Once clear we park up and let it detonate near some innocent bystanders, saving considerable damage to Mafia property. Phew.

Mission 2

We're back in the Sentinel, crusing over to Don Salvatore's mansion. He wants us to retrieve some cash from the docks at Atlantic Quays, so we take a dirt bike from his driveway and head down the hill. Across the water we can see Shoreside Vale- the draw distance is extremely impressive. Unfortunately, those bomb-happy Triads have rigged the warehouse, so collecting the cash packages is a race against time - allwhile fighting running battles. In the nick of time we dash out and the building goes up, damaging everything nearby. Ignoring the smoking cars, we steal a chopper[bike], gassing it up and weaving madly to avoid the incoming wave of Belly Up fish vans. Eventually, with only minor civilian casualties, we reach the safety of Salvatore's mansion once again.

Mission 3
In one mission, the Don sends you to pick up some money at a warehouse, which blows up just as you get there. You must scramble around picking up all the loose change while picking off Triad gangsters.

Mission 4
In another mission, you have to stop four waves of sindacco thugs from blowing up a Casino. It starts with two cars full of hit men, then an armoured truck and finally a dynamite packed van which you have to take over and drive out of harm's way.
